We did it! We reached our goal of reading 10,000 pages as a family this summer! Our grand total on the Saturday before school starts is 10,485 pages.
Three cheers to Tyler, a voracious reader at the tender age of seven! He blows me away. He and Zachary both made great strides in their reading abilities this summer, expanded their language base, and explored some fun new stories. These lists don't include the countless picture books Gavin and Lexi enjoyed over the summer, but they had ample reading time, too. They are both loving If You Give a Pig a Pancake and the other four books in that series. Reading to Lexi invariably involves a game of 50 questions and her endless commentary, which is quite entertaining but never a quick and simple endeavor. Gavin likes reading the same book again and again and again and again...
When we asked Zach and Tyler how they would like to celebrate their significant achievement, they thought for a minute before responding. Zach finally shouted, "A new TV!" Ha! That seemed a little counter-productive, so we invited him to reconsider. "How about ice cream?" I had something a little more substantial in mind, but given the status of our current life, a family date to an ice cream shop was just the ticket. We even had a coupon for a favorite place.

Congratulations! That is so fun. "A new TV". HA! What a marvelous suggestion. I think we might do this next summer - the kids always do the summer reading program at the library, but I never track my own pages!

P.S. If you want another one to add to your list, Tommy told me about a book called "Emotional Intensity in the Gifted Student" and said that it has really been great for their family. It's on my "to read" list now, but I may not get to it for a while...

LOL! I was reading through my list of books and "The Sixth Man" was listed with Sean King as the author. He's one of the main characters, not sure how that happened. I updated it to reflect David Baldacci, the actual author. Way to go kids!!
