Decisions, decisions

Remember my percolating paint plans?
Well, I took a bold step and selected paint swatches.

In my room, we'll paint the wall behind the bed some shade of green
and the other walls white (but which white??).
Garry will re-print our Feng Shui wall art to match.

In Lexi's room, all of the walls will be pink,
and I'll update the flower boxes to match the new decor
(and the fabulous quilt Aunt Heidi made).

Opinions?

Also, what would you do if your out-of-control two-year-old
fell asleep during time-out at 9:30 a.m.?
It was a hard call, but I woke him up. I'm not sure yet if that was wise.

P.S. This is my 700th post!

Happy 700th!! You guys and paint! I'm content with beige. How is it we are friends? Are you continually biting your tongue?!

Color is always a tough call. Pink can get kind of overwhelming. Claire wanted her room pink, so we did three walls very pale and the smallest wall a brighter pink. It tuned out really cute!

It's always so much fun painting a new color, but it's finding the color that is so taxing! Good luck!

I was watching Color Confidential the other day and Jane (the hostess) recommended adding a touch of your paint color to the white. It makes it blend a little better.

I will tell you, I just painted my family room Scottish Isle (green)and Cozy Cottage (very light linen color)--both Behr. I love it! My personal choice is a lighter green rather than a darker, like forest.

As for the pink, I have no recommendations other than go lighter. I'm thinking about pinking up my girls' room--but haven't decided what color to go with in there.

OK, hard to say without seeing up close and in person, but my tentative choices are:

For your bedroom, we just painted ours green and we absolutely love it! Our furniture is a reddish dark wood color, like a really dark cherry, and the green sets it off beautifully! It looks like yours is similar? I would definitely be leaning toward one of the lighter or middle tones on one of the two more olive-y swatches. Roughly the color of the green pillows, or maybe the topmost two rows of leaves on the bedspread (not counting the top, just outlined, one).

For Lexi's room: I would go maybe a lighter, gentler version of the dark pink on the quilt. Maybe the second form the top color on the top left swatch?

So fun! I can't wait to see what you pick! Are you going to repaint/change the furniture in Lexi's room too?

I think you should add some green accent to Lexi's room, to bring in the color of the FABULOUS quilt that I'm still jealous of.

For your room, I vote for the bottom color on the middle panel of the bottom row. It looks like it matches the pillows? And, I wouldn't necessarily change the red in the prints. I like the different pop of color. I might even add a small red pillow on the bed to tie everything together.

For Lexi's room, I vote for the top color on the top left (does that make sense?) or even a lighter shade than that. I agree that it shouldn't be too bright.

PS - Will you come decorate my house? I love your taste.

I laughed so hard when I saw the color cards all over the wall, because my house has them taped everywhere too! Green is a tough color to pick, but it is a gorgeous color. You room will look great. You have a good eye for color, go with your gut. Don't forget to post the finished products! I am sure they will look great.

Oh,I feel so good! I'm so glad you're using her quilt! You made my day!

Shaina is a genius. And I agree with her and the green accent. I'm not afraid of bold, so maybe I'm not the one to ask.

I just have to say I absolutely love your bedroom. So, so beautiful. I didn't know I liked green that much. Again, I love contrast, so I would do a darker green. But, I could be totally off on that.

Glad you are making it home!

I love it all--and am continually amazed by your initiative. I have STILL not painted most of my house and I have lived here almost 4 years! I have not hung art on most of my walls--they are bare (and needing new paint). I currently have several unfinished projects "decorating" my house--zero trim in the upstairs hall, a completely torn up bathroom (this will be almost a two year hiatus for this room), ugly grey burber that I HATE in the living room, and the list goes on.... :) Sigh. Oh, well. Maybe someday...

Excellent! I love new rooms!

We just re-painted our office at work and we went with the green and black look. Ours is called little green frog, but we wish it would have been more of a relaxing mint/sage. I really like the color of your big pillows... a lighter shade of that would look really nice.

Definitely keep the red accent! We used deep reds as small accents and it brings a pop to the room.

I also really like the 2nd color on the top left swatch {the strawberry-ish color} for Lexi's room. Even a lighter shade would bring out a lot of the color in her quilt. :)

Happy painting! :)

For bedrooms I always say go bold, especially an accent wall. It's not a room that has to blend with the rest of the house or have unity with anything but itself. We did orange in Zach and Ben's, a dark blue stripe in Josh and Luke's and I LOVE our green bedroom walls. Favorite room in the house. I hope the wake-up didn't make for a bad day!

Picking paint is so hard. When I recently did my bathroom, at 9 p.m. I went to Lowes, picked up some paint samples. Made a choice within 30 minutes. Was at Sherwin Williams at 8 a.m. the next morning to buy a gallon of paint. It was the quickest decision I made (pressed for time to paint before tiling) and I love the color. Now I'm trying to decide on color for the new addition. Good luck!
p.s. do you hire out your painting? Need a trip to Utah?

I love your bedroom too! I just saw a House Hunters tonight on TV and a lot of it was a beautiful green. Sometimes green is hard but I like a little more muted and greyish green. I suggest staying in the lighter shades also.

When we painted Lily's room pink, I chose a lighter pink. However; I did not like it. I needed it to be pinker--so I went darker. (Despite all the above comments say to go lighter...I disagree and say go a shade darker or have it be a bolder pink.) We put green and some white on her walls, too. I like it...
